Happy birthday to me!
On Friday, April 27, I will turn a ripe old 57 years of age. Usually, I do some kind of gag post at my blog on that date to commemorate the occasion. But this year, I thought I’d up the ante with
Rules
Here is the subject matter I am looking for in this blogathon:
- The obvious choice — movies that were theatrically released in the U.S. or elsewhere in 1961. This can include live and animated short subjects as well as feature films. (I’m doing a Bugs Bunny cartoon myself!)
- Movie-related news from that year. Did a significant event take place in Hollywood in 1961 that you’d like to write about? Was one of your favorite actors born in 1961 or died in that year?
- If you have any other idea related to movies of 1961, let me know. If it’s not too outrageous, I’ll probably allow it.
- Sorry, no duplicate posts. Please check the list below (which will be updated regularly) to ensure that your idea is not already taken.
How Do I Join the Blogathon?
In the “Comments” section at the bottom of this blog, please leave your name, the URL of your blog, and the movie you are choosing to blog about. At the end of this blog entry are banners for the ‘thon. Grab a banner, display it on your blog, and link it back to this blog.
The blogathon will take place from Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29, 2018. When the opening date of the blogathon arrives, leave a comment here with a link to your post, and I will display it in the list of entries (which I will continually update up to the beginning of the ‘thon, so keep checking back!).
I will not be assigning particular dates to any blog posts. As long as you get your entry in by the end of the day on April 29, I will be satisfied. (That said, the earlier the better!)
Again, be sure to leave a comment below and grab a banner, and have fun with your blog entry! Here’s the line-up so far:
Movie Movie Blog Blog – Compressed Hare (Bugs Bunny and Wile E. Coyote cartoon) and Stan Laurel receiving an Honorary Oscar
BNoirDetour – Blast of Silence
Thoughtsallsorts – Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Reelweegiemidget Reviews – The Innocents

Sounds great. I’m still deciding between The Misfits and The Comancheros. Will confirm asap.

So….I’ve changed my mind…I’ve never seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s and I see it is a 1961 movie so please put me down for that.

I was born in 1961, too December 11 as a matter of fact. Two movies were released in the US on the same day, Dec 13th, 1961 (according to wikipedia). One was The Phantom Planet. The other was Assignlment: Outer Space (which was actually made and released in Italy in 1960, so you may want to disqualify it, but it wasn’t released in the US until that date mentioned above.) I like the kismet of them possibly being paired on drive-in theaters on the same day so I am giving it a try.

Thanks. I like the banners, BTW. Have a look of being like Life Magazine covers.

How about Through a Glass Darkly for The Stop Button?

Unfortunately I won’t be able to sign up for this because I’ll be attending the TCM Classic Film Festival for the first time, but I just wanted to tell you that I think your blogathon is a fantastic idea! Aside from 1939, 1961 is my favorite year in film, and there are so many great pictures to choose from! Happy birthday also, and good luck with everything!

Could I take “The Misfits” if it hasn’t been spoken for?

I love your birth year as a blogathon idea! I’ll participate with The Hoodlum Priest because it sounds a bit wacky but also because it’s on my dvr right now and I need to watch it. 😊

Can I write about “The Parent Trap” ?
Is it okay if I post a little early? I am going to a wine and seafood festival April 27-29.
Thanks!

What a great idea for a blogathon. Love the banners too. Could I please join and write about my five favourite films from 1961?

Absolutely! Glad to have you! Tell you what, though, please give me the titles of the movies you’re covering. I want to list each person’s entries so that nobody does any duplicates.

THE INNOCENTS has been taken. Would you like to replace it with something else or just stick with the remaining four?

Hi. Looks like I’ll have to bow out then. I wasn’t planning on writing a duplicate in depth review of any of these five films. I want to submit a single post which would feature a brief synopsis of these five films. Then I would just be mainly talking about why these five are my favourites from this year. I’ve got a lot of full length posts I’m working on right now for this month and next. I don’t have time to add another full length review to that list, which is why I wanted to do this post in this way.

Sorry. I’d have been happy for you to do them that way, but as I said, I prefer not to have duplicate entries.

No worries. Hope the blogathon goes well. Looking forward to checking out the entries.

I just noticed that BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S has already been spoken for as well. Sorry, but I did state at the outset that I wanted no duplicate entries.
